The Vagabond Inn Bishop is ideal for those seeking adventure in rustic California, a short distance from Kings Canyon National Park. Located off the US 395, near major fishing areas along the Owens River, skiing, horseback riding and hiking, this inn is well equipped for a quiet stay or your outdoor excursion. For your convenience, fish cleaning and freezing facilities, BBQ and RV parking are available on the premises. For your more immediate dining needs, there is a Denny's restaurant, open 24-hours, on the premises. Relax in our heated pool (open seasonally) or indoor sauna. Our rooms feature cable TV with HBO for your enjoyment. As always, we promise you our own brand of Western hospitality. Good Value, friendly people- it's how we do things.

  • Whiskey Creek: For hundreds of thousands of people, the classy dining at Whiskey Creek is an integral part of the Mammoth excursion. It gets a flavor that's all its own, and their on-line menu should make this perfectly obvious. It'll make you hungry too! It is located 0.5 miles south of the hotel, Paradise Resort, Route 2, Bishop. Located at the heart of the Eastern Sierra outdoor fun. Enjoy steaks, seafood, chicken, and an impressive wine selection, all served in an atmosphere of quiet elegance. Companies and large groups can enjoy an exclusive party in the Paradise Banquet Room.   • Inyo National Forest: The forest features Mount Whitney, the highest point the continental United States.
  • June Lake Loop Recreation Area: The June Lake area is located off of State Route 158 and contains parts of the Pacific Crest and John Muir trails, Mono Basin National Forest Scenic Area, and June Mountain Winter Sports Area.
  • Mammoth Lakes Recreational Area: The Mammoth Lakes area offers fishing, skiing, boating, snowmobiling, and hiking. The area is located 41.6 miles northwest of our Bishop property.
  • Owens Valley Paiute-Shoshone Indian Cultural Center: This center features historical exhibits of American Indian food, clothing, housing, tools, and basketry. It is located at 2300 W Line St, 1.9 miles southwest of our Bishop property. This museum offers excellent informative displays featuring the history of the occupation of these tribes in the Owens Valley. Don't miss the Petroglyphs of the Volcanic Tablelands, they are all over the place, specifically the area immediately north of Bishop that lies between Hwy 395 and Hwy 6, extending about 20 miles toward Crowley lake at the southern edge of the Long Valley Caldera.   • Mono Lake Tufa State Reserve: Mono Lake features a preservation of tufa, which is a calcium-carbonate rock that is formed by the interaction of freshwater springs under the lake with the alkaline lake waters. The lake is located in Lee Vining, 64 miles northwest of our Bishop property.
  • Death Valley National Park: Death Valley contains the lowest spot in the United States at 282 feet below sea level. The town of Death Valley is located 163 miles southeast of our Bishop property.
  • Bishop Creek Canyon: Just a short drive west of Bishop along Hwy. 168, the natural environment changes quickly fron the high desert sage and arid climate of the wide open Owens Valley floor to an alpine wonderland of pine forest, rushing streams and gorgeous deep-blue lakes surrounded by the mighty mountain peaks of the Eastern Sierra. With well maintained roads leading to 4 major lakes, this is one of the most accessible areas in the entire Eastern High Sierra for excellent trout fishing.
